Roux Porosity Control Conditioner 101

There seems to be a lot of confusion about Roux Porosity Control Conditioner and how its used on the hair. Many ladies are having a hard time incorporating this product into their regimen simply because they do not know how to use it, what is it primarily for, and when to use it. I will address all of these questions for you.

Who: Those with chemically treated hair (color, perm, bleach, relaxer).

What: Equalizes the hair's porosity. Moisturizes, detangles, and lusterizes. Leaves hair vibrant looking and manageable.

Where: Apply to the roots and ends.

When:
1. If the hair overly dry and suffering from brittleness regardless of how much moisture is put into the hair.
2. Right before a chemical service so that the hair can readily and evenly accept the chemical service.

Why: Porosity Control Conditioner is great! Hair in its healthiest state is at a pH level of 4.5-5.5 which is acidic, therefore holding a positive charge. Damaged hair tends to be more alkaline (about 7 on the pH scale) as a result from coloring, perms, bleaches, relaxers, thermal tools, therefore holding a negative charge. Hair in this state tends to look more dull, dry, cuticles are raised, tangles occur, and the cortex is exposed causing more damage. The proper pH level can be obtained by using Porosity Control Conditioner to acidify the hair since its a low pH product. This acidic conditioner helps to compact the hair cuticles having them lay flat and constricted. When the cuticles are closed and laying flat, light is able to reflect off of your hair (giving it shine) rather than absorb it (dry/dull looking). The hair will then become positively charged allowing you to manage your hair better and have it feel & look healthier than before.

How:
1. Apply to the hair before a chemical service to prevent chemical shock to ensure predictable results. This also helps prevent overlapping of the relaxer.
2. Apply after a chemical service when additional conditioning is required. Leave on for 30 seconds, rinse out.
3. Apply to the hair in sections while detangling the hair with a wide tooth comb. This is great before shampooing. Let it sit for 5-10mins after the detangling process, then rinse out.
4. Apply after shampooing. Let it sit for 2-5mins. Rinse and follow up with a deep conditioner for better conditioning results (more moisture, shine and elasticity).
5. Put 2-3tsp of the conditioner in your deep conditioner for added slip, cortex protection, impart shine, and align the bonding of the cuticles.
6. Use as a final rinse for detangling, and smoothness, leave on for 2-5 mins, then rinse out.

Here is the break down of the ingredients in the Roux Porosity Control Conditioner:

Propylene gycol - humectant that binds water to the hair, conditioning agent.
Oleyl betaine - Derived from coconut and palm oils. An Emollient. Has superior penetrating ability.
Dicetyldimonium chloride - Conditioning ingredient used to provide smoothness and ease of combing, silicone derivative. Adds luster and sheen.
Lecithin - A natural emollient, emulsifier, antioxidant, and spreading agent, with a hydrophilic ingredient that attracts water and acts as a moisturizer.
Guar hydroxypropyltrimonium chloride - Naturally derived from Guar tree, thickening and stabilizing agent.
Lactic acid - natural pH modifier and humectant.
Fragrance - we all know what this means
Coumarin - Fragrance Ingredient
Eugenol - Liquid extracted from certain essential oils especially from clove oil. Used for its anti-inflammatory anti-irritant properties.
Hexyl cinnamal - aroma substance
Hydroxycitronellal - fragance
Methylparaben - preservatives
Propylparaben - preservatives
Dmdm hydantoin - preservatives
Titanium dioxide - A naturally occurring mineral that functions as a sun block to both UVA and UVB rays. Reflects light.
Mica - A transparent mineral. Structured in thin sheets that glide across each other. Used to provide slip, light reflection, and used to add sparkle.

As one can see, humectants, conditioning agents and a pH adjuster are present in the ingredients and they are helpful in the process of the hair absorbing moisture better, therefore aiding to the correction of one's porous hair issues. Many ladies, including myself, notice the hair's ability to absorb/retain moisture better after using the Roux Porosity Control Conditioner.

Always remember -All Chemical services are alkaline, therefore hair that has been processed this way tends to be more alkaline. pH balanced shampoo's and/or conditioners are vital in healthy hair care.
