De-Frizz Your Frizzed-up Hair!

Smooth flowing hair is something that we all crave to have! Right?! Nothing makes me happier than to run my fingers through my hair and feel soft silky tresses. The best way to avoid frizzy rough hair is to first find out what causes it!

What Causes Frizz? Frizzy hair is caused by lack of moisture. Lack of moisture is a result of the cuticle layer failing to hold together tightly, thus having damaged hair (result of excessive heat, chemical services etc). Damaged cuticles often have a dull, dry, brittle, frizzy appearance due to its inability to retain moisture. Do you notice that when the hair is moist, it has weight? the hair hangs down nicely and stays in place. Dry hair doesn't have weight, so it tends to frizz up! Yes, you've guessed it, frizzy hair is a porosity issue. Frizzy hair is very porous. Curly hair lifts off of the scalp so it doesn't recieve the nautral oils and sebum produced by the scalp to penetrate the hair shaft and tame frizzies or fly aways. People with naturally curly hair tend to have these problems.

How Can Frizzy Hair Be Fixed?

- Cut out or minimize the amount of shampoo you use. Many shampoo's have harsh ingredients that strip the nautral oil from our hair and scalp. Shampoo can leave your hair dehydrated therefore causing more damage to your hair. If you are still going to shampoo your hair just apply it to your scalp/roots but avoid your hair shaft and ends. Many opt for the low or no shampoo method, try using a moisturizing conditioner to cleanse your hair. You'll notice a difference right away.

- Reduce the amount of sun exposure your hair gets. The sun can dry out the hair potentially leading to dry damaged hair.

- Limit the amount of heat you use on your hair. Heat tends to dry out that hair at a rapid rate. If you do use heat, use Tourmaline Ceramic Technology which retains your hair's luster and helps to create smooth, silky hair while eliminating frizz. Also, try Air Drying for a change and occasionally run your fingers through your hair to smooth it out .

- Don't rub the towel in your hair while wet, just pat it lightly or use a cotton t-shirt to ring out that excess water.

- Wear a satin or silk scarf or bonnet to sleep. Rubbing your hair against cotton fabrics cause frizz and breakage.

- Leave-in conditioners help keep frizz at bay. Look for leave-in conditioners that have pH adjusters in them i.e. citric acid (comes from citrus fruits), lactic acid (formed by the fermentation of lactose, or milk ), or Triethanolamine (TEA) to close the hair cuticle. These acidic postively charged polymers help to neutralise the negatively charged surfaces on the hair shaft, thus making the hair smooth and frizz free.

- Do a cold water rinse or Apple cider vinegar rinse after rinsing out your deep conditioner to close the hair cuticles trapping the moisture in.

- Apply a natural oil (Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Coconut Oil, Jojoba Oil etc.) to the hair and then use a natural boar bristle brush to distribute the oils evenly for smooth shiny hair.
