O My God! ...LOL

Ok, I saw this image on Mane and Chic, of model Kaila Wilson.  Is it just me or does this picture have a striking resemblance to my Naturally Beautiful Hair blog Header Image?!?  What do you think?

Look at the hair, shoes and attitude (aka - confidence!). I just love it!

Willow Smith

I love that Willow Smith is able to be expressive with her hair. Jada has a beautiful family in general.
“Look, it’s 2010. Can’t our little girls move into the future without ruffling feathers? The look is fun, empowering, anti-relaxer and anti-weave. More women need to steer their little girls in this direction. If your child is a forward-thinker, you should guide her instead of smothering her.” - Jada Pinkett Smith

RE: Bay Area Natural Hair Event

Hello everyone,

This past weekend I attended the Natural Selection Bay Area Summer Curlabration event. And it was a lot of fun. I meet some beautiful women that are natural, and women that where transitioning, that came for advice and inspiration. See below for pictures from the event: This first picture is of myself with Cassidy, the creator of Natural Selection Blog and the person that put the gathering together. The event took place at a restaurant in San Francisco, CA.

Shingai Shoniwa

"Shoniwa grew up to a single mother from Zimbabwe in a South London public-housing estate. The experience, Shoniwa says, absolutely informs her music. “Wanting to escape from reality can inspire the greatest and most trivial creative natures in people,” and “I think escapism is something that connects all of us. Everybody has their own little soundtrack, and I guess I’m trying to make my own soundtrack to my escape plan. I want people to realize that there’s so much more.”
She first wanted to be an actress, and for a while joined the Lost Vagueness crew as a burlesque performer. She studied circus skills at a London youth club as a teenager. When she graduated, she attended art school and dabble in local theatre. Her classmate and friend, Dan Smith, would hold what she called "ridiculous jam sessions — too many people strumming broken guitars thinking they're Syd Barrett." One day she joined him singing, and the two quickly formed a group." - Source

Re: Miss Tyra Banks

Thank you UrbanCurlz, for sharing this video of Tyra's "real hair" premier on her new season of her show. See the previous post regarding Miss Tyra Banks. Tyra looks great, and I hope she continues to rock her own hair throughout the season. But the idea that her hair's natural texture was shown, is probably false. It looks chemically altered. But I still appreciate her not always wearing the wigs, while at the same time preaching to others about accepting themselves as their are. It was a contradiction. So perm or no perm, this is a nice change for Tyra.

Afrobella has a few words to say regarding this episode of the Tyra show:
"Where were the women with kinky, coily, natural hair textures? Why not feature a woman with a TWA? Why not expose her hair as it truly is — unaltered texture and all? Maybe, despite the hype, Tyra wasn’t yet ready. And that I can almost respect that.

Going natural shouldn’t be a fad — it takes dedication, commitment, and courage. Maybe this was a baby step for Tyra. I’m gonna hold out hope that someday she’ll do an episode that truly displays a range of hair textures and explores the deep feelings associated with natural hair. If not now, then hey — there’s always the premiere of season six."

I just want wish Tyra luck. I will always be a fan. Wig, perm, natural hair... what ever. No matter whats going on with her hair, she seems to be a genuinely good person. And she is entertaining.

Also, as shown on the blog Divine Life Collection, Tyra is getting ready to start a new online magazine. Click here: tyrabanks.com to check it out.

Miss Tyra Banks

Tyra Banks has been promoting the new season of her talk show, by saying she will be revealing her own natural hair, while hosting the show. I like Tyra. But I actually feel like she should have been doing this the whole time. She has been a great role model for young girls and women throughout her career. But a big part of being a role model is practicing what you preach. So for me, its like great... finally your going to show your real hair and do what you have been preaching "which is to love yourself for you. And to not live your life trying to impress others." So thumbs up to Tyra... I look forward to the new season of her show.
**Season Five starts on September 8th

Goapele's Milk & Honey Video

I love Goapele! I've been a fan of hers for more than a decade. And I am proud to say that she is from my home town, so luckily I get to see her perform when ever she returns to the area. I have also seen her throughout the Bay Area, and she has a beautiful spirit. Very down to earth, sweet and humble.

When she wore her hair in Loc's, she was a huge inspiration for me. And she is still naturally beautiful with her current unique braided style. Goapele has a new album coming out and here is a track from her new CD. - Source
