February 2010 Hair Update + New Goals

Below are some recent hair photos. I stretched my relaxer out to 13 weeks - it was quite hard at times I must admit. The most my hair (especially since it's so coarse and highly textured) can tolerate is 10-11 weeks post. The longer I stretch, the more hair I lose Smiley. I learned my lesson! LOL

Moving on...I lightly trimmed my hair twice since I last relaxed in November 2009. I did this because I noticed some split ends and they had to go because I'm in the Healthy Ends Challenge on Hairlista Inc.

I feel like I haven't gained much length this time around (plus I gave my scalp a break from JBCO for a while..don't worry I will continue using it again starting tonight..I slacked off big time. No more excuses). Overall, I'm pretty happy with the health - which is most important.

FYI, I'm still on my quest to MBL...it's taking some time...but I'm loving the journey nonetheless Smiley.

Goals I Met from June 2009 Personal MBL Check Up:

  • CONSISTENTLY Apply Jamaican Black Castor oil (not a fan of the regular Castor oil - sorry) to scalp 3x/week part of the Castor Oil Challenge Pt.2
  • Increase/maintain thickness (hair & ends)
  • Keep up with light protein weekly
  • Incorporate more oils into regimen
  • Co-wash 1x/week part of the Summer 2009 Co-wash Challenge
  • Take Multi-Vitamins Daily & Fish Oils

New Goals:

  • Apply JBCO to scalp 3 times a week after wash day
  • Take Multi-Vitamin and Omega 3-6-9 capsules daily
  • Drink 8 glasses of water daily
  • Exercise 3 times a week (I got a new membership..YAY Me!)
  • Increase shine and soften texture (hard goal but I'm willing to take on the challenge)
  • Buy a new steamer (my Hair Therapy Wrap broke..will explain later)
  • Simplify regimen and products even more!

Checkin' In On My Personal MBL Challenge

Time has passed and I did not reach my goal of BSL by Spring 2009 *sigh* (although, I am fairly close). I'm quite disappointed in my efforts to reach this goal - like c'mon already man..geez.

However, I am grateful and pleased with the overall results I've attained from the new routine I've developed. Below, there are a couple things I've added after my last Personal MBL Challenge Update.

Small Tweaks:

- As of Feb 7th to present, I started using JBCO on my scalp.
- As of late March to present, I started using a light protein - weekly.
- As of Jan 21st to present, I've been using coconut oil as a prepoo protection treatment on my previously relaxed hair before a relaxer.

Revisit Year 2 Goals:
- Hit FULL BSL by Spring 2009 (March-April) Fall 2009
- Reach MBL (Oct. '09) Spring 2010..lol
- Simplify my regimen & products even more
- Keep breakage to a minimum
- Baby my ends and Moisturize & Seal in Sections
- Increase thickness of ends
- Dust ends frequently
- Use low pH products (shampoos & DC's)
- Increase moisture level

New Goals:
  • CONSISTENTLY Apply Jamaican Black Castor oil (not a fan of the regular Castor oil - sorry) to scalp 3x/week part of the Castor Oil Challenge Pt.2
  • Increase/maintain thickness (hair & ends)
  • Keep up with light protein weekly
  • Incorporate more oils into regimen
  • Co-wash 1x/week part of the Summer 2009 Co-wash Challenge
  • Take Multi-Vitamins Daily & Fish Oils
I'm so fired up right now!!!!! LETS GO

Hair Update

  • I'm 9 weeks post and I will be relaxing in the next couple of days (shortest stretch ever!!)
  • I'm still on my Personal MBL Challenge and so far so good. I've completed these things:
Year 2 Goals:
- Hit FULL BSL by Spring 2009 (March-April)
- Reach MBL (Oct. '09)
- Simplify my regimen & products even more
- Keep breakage to a minimum
- Baby my ends and Moisturize & Seal in Sections
- Increase thickness of ends
- Dust ends frequently
- Use low pH products (shampoos & DC's)
- Increase moisture level

  • I found amazing Deep conditioners that make my hair feel lovely i.e. Silk Elements Mega Cholesterol & Moisturizing Treatment. Thank God for my pjism :-)
  • I'm using Hollywood Beauty Castor Oil again as my sealant along with Hot Six Oil. Hollywood Beauty Castor Oil is much thicker for this harsh winter weather. I l♥ves it.
  • S-Curl No Drip Activator is back in my regimen.
  • Currently using Mane N Tail as part of my protein treatment. i.e. 1 Egg & Mane N Tail w/ EVOO.
  • Narrowed down my staple products.
  • I use the Wet Look wide tooth comb from Sally's instead of the Jilbere comb. The teeth are slightly wider and detangles like a dream.
  • Done with towel drying, I only t-shirt dry my hair now.

Year 2: My Personal MBL Challenge!

I've already entered my 2nd year of my Hair Care Journey and I'm starting approx. at the length of my dear friend Traycee. She started at APL and reached Waist length in less than a year. That blew me away! Congrats again Sis. With that being said, I'm starting my own challenge and I will be revamping my regimen too.

Here are the starting photos:

It seems like my hair is touching my bra strap. However, I don't consider myself BSL simply because I'm a little concerned with my ends. I have noticed (thank God I flat ironed...) that the hairs towards my nape/back area have been neglected due to lack of moisture. I realized that I don't moisturize that area enough so its starting to thin out :( Now, I'm going to moisturize and seal in SECTIONS like Traycee and see if that helps. My sister had the same problem and it was cured once she started to adapt and incorporate Traycee's methods. I gotta go into "repair mode" and take care of this situation *sighs*.

Year 2 Goals:
- Hit FULL BSL by Spring 2009 (March-April)
- Reach MBL (Oct. '09)
- Simplify my regimen & products even more
- Keep breakage to a minimum
- Baby my ends and Moisturize & Seal in Sections
- Increase thickness of ends
- Dust ends frequently
- Use low pH products (shampoos & DC's)
- Increase moisture level

Revamped Regimen:
- Prepoo 1x/week (Saturdays)
- Shampoo 2x/week (Mondays)
- DC 2x/week with heat for 30mins (Mondays & Thrusdays)
- Co-wash 1x/week (Saturdays)
- Air Dry in twists or a bun 99% of the time
- Moisturize and Seal in Sections Daily
- Relax every 10-12 weeks
- Only baggy when ends are dry
- Protein Treatment 1-2x/month
- Clarify 1-2x/month
