Happy Birthday to Me!

It's that time againnnnn. I am 1 year older, 1 year wiser, 1 year better than before! I thank God for blessing me with another year to live my life and fulfill all my goals/dreams.

God revealed to me a lot of things while I was 23. It was a year filled with good times and hard times, but I can honestly say that I've grown from it all. I have no regrets!

At 8pm today I will "officially" be 24 years young. Man, it feels so good to say that..LOL. This is definitely my year (2009 is mine), God has put everything into alignment, I can see it so clearly.

I am grateful to be of service to you all and I thank you for being a part of my life & for supporting Hairlicious & Hairlista Inc. :-)

I know that this is a hair blog featuring topics mainly having to do with hair care but I just had to share this with you all. Coconut oil is one of my favorite oils that I always make sure to have handy. I'm addicted to the shine and suppleness I experience whenever I use coconut oil. I tell you truthfully that I wouldn't trust my braidouts to any other oil. Recently though, I discovered yet another use of this fabulous oil-shaving cream!

Yes, you heard me right, I spread a thin layer of coconut oil (in liquid form) on my legs the other day as an alternative to shaving cream and let me tell you.....I am never looking back. This stuff makes for an incredibly smooth shave leaving your legs silky smooth. I can't keep my hands off them. Now I know I'm sounding like a Nair commercial right about now but I feel that I have a moral obligation to spread the good news of this all natural way to shave. Best of all, I know I'm not slathering a bunch of synthetic ingredients from a product bragging to have an ounce of of plant oil mixed in with their chemicals.

For those of you who have questions about using oil for shaving let me first say that the oil does not interfere with the razor's ability to do its business. And no, the oil won't clog up the razor. The best part about coconut oil is that its a "watery" oil that is basically liquid in warm temperatures. Once you've stepped out of the shower and towel dried, you will not believe the difference. Soft, incredibly moisturized legs. I've even used this method in "other" areas and was pleased with the results.

So there you have it.....a quick tip on how you can have fabulous legs this summer with the help of coconut oil.

There are certain things that a person must remember if they are thinking of getting a perm done to their hair. For a start, those with colored hair shouldn’t really have a perm as both of these things massively dry out the hair, leaving it hard to get back to its normal healthy state. This also applies to those that have any kind of chemical process done on their hair such as a perm recently that has not gone according to plan or chemical straightening which can all aid in drying the hair out.
Those with thin hair may want to pass on a perm as well as it takes better on thicker hair than it does on thinner hair. It could fall out easier or not last as long with thin hair but again this is something that your hair stylist will be able to inform you about. A perm should usually last in the region of around three or four months but in some cases it can drop out after two or stay for as long as six.

A Creative Week

So I usually don't do very much with my hair, because I don't have much time in the mornings. But this week was a little different. I decided to get up a little early each day and try something new. So here is what I came up with:

Do a little twist for work! I tried this on Wednesday morning. I felt creative and started twisting the top of my hair, and then stuck the twist into a pony tail.

This was my cute and quick bun for Monday! Definitely a great pick-me up for the Monday blues.

On Tuesday, I did a half twisted bun with hair down.


And on Thursday, I went all out and did this huge twisted bun.



For this bun, I got my inspiration from the photo below from - masoesa's photostream. I originally saw this photo on http://blog.franchesca.net. At first, I thought this picture looked kind of wild, but then I got inspired.


So that's it for this week. Today, on friday - I did nothing! Just wore it down. But I think I did enough for the week. It was fun and I look forward to doing it again.
