Quick Update On Queen Helene Cholesterol

I forgot to mention this but a day or two after using the Queen Helene Conditioner I've noticed a medium sized rash on my left forearm. It was kinda itchy but not too severe. I know its from the conditioner because that was the only "new" thing that I have tried in a long time.

Im not sure if it was the Lanolin or mineral oil (which I shouldn't have been using in the first place anyways!), but this is definately not going to be a part of my regimen. Right now Im using a couple products regularly and I think that they are working quite well. I will do a full review later on this week. From this experiment I learned to stick to what works! lol

Can you gain length without protective styling?

There was a time during my hair journey when I would pin my hair up in various buns, wraps, and other means of hiding my hair from seeing the light of day. I did this in hopes of retaining precious length that would get me to my hair goal. Protective styling did work but I soon grew tired of wearing buns day after day. Don't get me wrong, I like to wear the occasional bun from time to time, but I also wanted to enjoy the fruits of my labor by allowing my hair to flow freely.

So how do I stay on track with my goals and still enjoy my hair?

Create a fool proof routine- If you are still in the experimentation phase of your hair journey where you are working to solidify your routine, you may want to continue protective styling until your are comfortable enough with your results. You want to make sure your hair is getting the right amount of moisture and strength from your routine. If so, you can more comfortably wear your hair any way you like without having to worry about the condition of your hair. I also feel more comfortable displaying my tresses if I wash every 4-5 days instead once every 7 days. After about a week, the moisture levels aren't as potent and I begin to wear my hair up in order to avoid possible damage.

Protect your ends-Just because my hair is not in a bun doesn't mean I'm not thinking about my ends. Even when I wear my hair down I take precautionary measures with my ends. First, I make sure to rollerset my hair so my ends are straightened by a roller, not a flat iron. Once out of the roller, I make sure to add some of my favorite moisturizing oil to my hair and especially my ends. Finally, I seal the deal by taking a minute or two during the day to add product to my hair.

Make judgement calls-I know that the simple act of wearing my hair down daily could potentially rob me of my hard earned length so I am constantly checking the condition of my hair to see if I am experiencing excessive breakage. If I am, then I trim and style protectively to help my ends recover. Or let's say I am wearing a really fuzzy sweater to work. I know better than to let my hair rub up against the sweater all day. Hot summer days where I know that a lot of sweating will be involved are also murder on my ends. If my hair becomes wet and is allowed to dry without the support of the roller, my ends will be the ones to suffer. I avoid that situation altogether by pinning my hair up in a cute style in an effort to keep the worst case scenario from occurring.

Protecting your hair from the elements is one of the absolute best ways to retain length. But if you are like me and you like to flaunt what you have, then there are ways around bunning every day. You just have to be a little smarter with your hair. I was able to reach my hair goals when I was baggying and bunning. I was also able to reach my hair goals without hiding my hair everyday. If you do decide to wear your hair out more often, keep a close eye on your results. If your hair still thrives and remains healthy then more power to you.

My Gold N Hot Hooded Dryer!

Someone on the Black Hair Forum, either yesterday or today, asked if it is beneficial to use heat when deep conditioning? For me, I've noticed better results when deep conditioning with a heat source as opposed to nothing. My hair feels much more moist, thicker, and bouncy!! Thanks to my Gold N Hot Hooded Dryer.

Don't get me wrong, using your own natural body heat is great and I've tried it with satisfactory results but it does not compare to using a hooded dryer like at the salon.

I find that when you are doing deep treatment, it is more beneficial when used with heat, simply because the heat temporarily swells the cuticle and allows the conditioner to better penetrate the hair shaft. The proteins, oils and moisture can then penetrate and attach it self to the damage hair strands (the cortex, which is the most important layer of the hair shaft). I normally pile all my hair (ends included) at the top of my head, cover with a plastic cap and go under the dryer or heating cap for about 20-30mins.

The Hot N Gold Dryer can also be used to dry your hair after you've washed and deep conditioned rather than using a blow dryer. After you've detangled, apply your leave-ins (you can either wrap your hair or have it just hanging down straight) and sit under the dryer for as long as it takes to dry your hair. There are 4 heat settings (cool, low, medium and hot), I normally use "medium". It will dry your hair straight & in a healthy way.

Try using a hooded dryer and see for yourself!

Back on the scene after being released from the UCLA psych ward earlier today, Britney Spears has left her house and checked into the Beverly Hills Hotel.

Followed to the hotel by a convoy of 20+ paparazzi, Spears was “promptly escorted inside the hotel with help of local police and, according to ExtraTV, she even came face to face with Arnold Schwarzenegger’s wife Maria Shriver.” Also of note, Britney has a new chauffeur - Lindsay Lohan’s former bodyguard, who just so happens to be an ex-Israeli Army soldier.

According to insiders, “It’s understood Spears’ parents, who have taken control of her legal, financial and security affairs, hired the new minder.”

A comment from a reader..

Anyone who actually follows all of that advice, is a complete and total sheep. Not just a poser, but a conformist follower. It's so sad how some people say that being 'emo' is being unique and individual, when you are just reading a few 'how-tos' on the subject.

If you truly are being who you really are, and truly are being an individual, then nobody can give you a 'how-to'. Develop your own personal style and be yourself, not just one of the mindless followers of thousands of teenagers who all look and dress exactly alike.

On that subject, it actualy truly saddens me when I read a few of these comments saying 'heavier set guy, not fat, just bulky, i know this is a bad thing' or 'little puggy (not fat) how to I trem it down to small again? (with out turning it into muscle?)'

The foolish people who write these articles are just contributing to the body image crisis that is sweeping this world, making these peoples self esteem PLUMMET. The people who leave these comments are probably at an incredibly healthy and attractive weight, but people writing these how to be emo articles are telling them LIES about who they 'should' be.

If you are truly overweight like 300kg then I'd say lose some weight but it's not a bad thing to have a few curves!!

WHY are you telling them what to do and how to live their life, how much to weigh, how to look etc., and WHY are you listening to these people telling you to do these things? You are perfect the way you are- your true self is who you were meant to be and not what some 'how-to' tells you to do on the internet.

Don't put on the mask of labelling yourself, become truly unique and appreciative of who you really are on the inside. Nobody can tell you how to dress or how to look, only YOU can tell yourself that.

It really is sad, that people think they need to conform to some emo standard of style to give themselves any worth.

You need not be anyone other than yourself. Don't let people tell you how to live your life, only YOU can tell yourself that. I eagerly await the day that people finally start to wake up to who they really are inside.
